Adventures in Micro-Limits

I think I’ve finally found the winning strategy in micro-limit games… seems that playing a Semi Loose Passive/Aggressive game is the way to go. I bought in for $6 and left the table an hour and a half later with $16. Not too bad for .05/.10 blinds.

Anyway… I’m going to do some more experimenting the next time I have the chance… hopefully, this strategy will continue to work and allow me to eventually buy up to the higher levels.

Of course, at the higher stakes level, I think I would go back to TAG (tight aggressive)… but being semi-loose seems to work at the micro-limits. Course, I can see how this would end up costing you money to. The other main players at the table were rated tight-aggressive and so therefore, I think it worked. There’s always an adjustment based on what type of players you are facing.

Home game tonight though and I’m shooting a film all day tomorrow, so I won’t likely be able to hit the micro-limit tables again to test this out until Monday… but, I’m very anxious to see if I’ve finally found the winning formula or if this was just a fluke. With only one big win, it’s really much too early to tell… I need a much larger sample ;)

.5/.10 is a $10 max buy in, right? .. I don’t think you should buy in below that level because there is no need to play shortstacked at micro limits… Passive/Aggressive can be a way to go, but beawre that people with PT and the ones that are more observant will realise that you limped with AK from late position and will stop paying you out on high flops…

Actually, I’m not sure what the max buy-in is… I usually only go in with the amount I’m willing to lose though… but perhaps I should change that thinking.

As far as observant players, I haven’t noticed a lot of those at those kind of micro levels… occasionally, I’ll notice that it seems like a player has a read on me… but usually there’s enough people there that don’t that I can still get paid off… also, if it’s bad, I can always get up and find another table.

    What’s your strategy for micro-limits?

Up until recently I was always buying in for maximum amount so that I can have every shorter stack covered… I was preying on short stacks and overly aggressive players… You can call that a “bear hunt” mode… That worked beautifully… Now I am trying the short stack approach and find it rather difficult because there is a lot of times where you have to push the flop or turn because of the short stackness and you still get burned because of the lack of trust for the push and you basically can’t afford to miss the flop or to go for more draws than usually, and since you are short stack people tend to notice how many chips you have and always classify you as tight passive aggressive which can be difficult to overcome… There are other problems regarding the micro limit short stack strategy but these are the first ones that comes to mind…
