What would you do?

what-would-you-do

Here’s what happened to me tonight at my regular home game, so I ask you, what would you do?

Here’s the scenario. You’re in a home game with 7 total players… down to the final three. You’re sitting on the chip lead by about 500 and you’ve pretty much been playing tight solid poker all night… always showing down with best hand. Blinds are at $75/$150. You have about $2500 in chips. You’re nearest rival has about $2000 and is a loose semi-aggressive player who is not afraid to risk everything on a draw. The short stack is an aggressive-maniac at about $1500. You’re in late position with A6os.

The button raises before the flop to $300. The small blind calls. You call.

The flop comes 5 6 T. Two clubs. One diamond. You have one club in your hand. It’s the Ace.

The SB checks. You check, thinking you have the best hand and wanting to get some value. The button bets $400. The
SB folds. You call.

The turn comes Td. The button acts out of turn and announces a bet of $400. You’re still pretty sure you have the best hand. 6s and Ts with an Ace kicker… after thinking and pegging this person for a flush draw, you decide to go all in…. hopefully pricing out the pot.

The button calls with hesitation and flips over, yes, you guessed it… a diamond flush draw and inside straight draw of 98d.

So… regardless of the outcome… what would you have done?

I would do what you did. All in to price him out. Some considerations though: with the board you could put him on 9 outs for the flush and 3 more for the inside straight draw not counting the 7d. If you win the hand you are big chip leader going to heads up. If you lose you still have enough chips to maybe come back. Lots of the experts say make it so they don’t have the price to make the call. Now I have a question. How did it turn out? I am guessing he hit the diamond based on the what would you do tone of the story.
