After a long hiatus from playing online, I’ve started up again last night. Doing okay so far… I think fold to pressure too often online. But, I guess I’ll have to try to fix that hole in my game as I go later.
Recently, I drove to Austin to visit friends. I listened to ESPN’s Poker Edge podcast on the way and Phil interview Annette (see my previous post). She said some interesting things about her play… one of which was that she said she plays by feel a lot. The exact opposite of what we’re taught.
Course, I understand that gut feelings can often help when we’re trying to play against the player… like if someone is bluffing or not. That really only applies to live games though. Online, the situation is much harder to do. But I find this in my home game a lot and it practically makes my head explode. But, there has to be something to it. Annette is certainly been tearing up online poker for years and now live tournaments. So… feeling poker.
Maybe I can work more at the aggressive part of her game. Earlier, I was playing a tournament in the BB with 82o. There was only one caller. The SB folded and I checked. The flop game out Q92 (rainbow). The caller bet out a small bet, about 1/3 the pot. I decided to try some aggression (I was short stacked anyway as I had taken a few bad flops with good cards before), so I raised all-in.
He started talking online that he only had a 9 and then at the last minute, decided to make the call. Good call for him.. but I’m willing to bet that he was sweating it.
Obviously, I have more work to do on my aggression. LOL
